Setting up a Search Center for a site collection

To set up a Search Center, you do these steps:

  1. Use the Team Site template at http://yourwebapp/sites/st to create a new site collection.
  2. Open the site collection as a site collection administrator.
  3. Click Site Actions – New Site.
  4. Choose Basic Search Center as the template.
  5. Give a name to Search Center.
  6. Set the URL to Search Center.
  7. Click Create.
Now to connect the Search Center to a site collection, you do these steps:

  1. Click Site Actions – Site Settings.
  2. Click Go to top-level site settings under Site Collection Administrator.
  3. Click Search Settings under Site Collection Administrator.
  4. For Site Collection Search Center, select Enable custom scopes by connecting this site collection with the following Search Center, and enter /sites/st/SearchCenter in the box.
  5. For Site Collection Search Dropdown Mode, select Show scopes dropdown.
  6. Confirm your settings and then click OK.
